We may have just made the gayest cupcakes ever.

It's either gayness or play-doh.

They look so innocent until you cut them open...

I am very afraid of your food. D:

Because you think it's laced with amyl nitrate?

Oh my god! You made Gayke! I love Gayke...

GAYKE! YES! AND SO IT SHALL BE CHRISTENED.

[identity profile] purplefog.livejournal.com 2010-08-30 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the term 'Gayke'. It was coined after seeing 'Pants Off Men' (gay coloured house, etc). We created many 'gay-coloured' things, and when we created a gay-coloured cake a friend shortened it to Gayke. Ha! Now you have a linguistic history to go with your Christening... HERITAGE!!

Go to Purple Heart in Brighton and buy some of the larger sized cupcake cases (the little Dr Oetker ones are too small). Then you need the following for basic cakes:

180g Plain Flour
150g Sugar
150g Butter/margerine
1 tsp Baking powder
3 eggs (depending on size)
Flavourings, such as vanilla essence.

Mix the dry goods with the butter and add one egg at the time, whisking it in until it's reasonably thick but smooth (not too runny, enough that it will heap just a little on the spoon).

To make the coloured cakes just separate into bowls and add the food colourings of your choice. These cakes ended up being six teaspoons (one of each colour) per cake and made ten. Ordinarily, this could make a dozen cakes, easily.

Bake for 17-20 mins at about 180 degrees or until brown on top and cooked through (use a skewer or slim knife - if it comes out clean it's cooked).

Leave to cool on a rack and then decorate. Ta daa!
