(no subject)

My prospectus for the college course arrived today. I have sufficient high school qualifications, and I think I can get Kieran to do me an email saying I've helped out with moderate roadie-ing duties (plus, there's the street team thing).

It's going to cost me £4,000 for fees, if I get in.

I'm going to talk to my nan and uncle over Christmas, get their advice (which I guarantee will be, "Oooh, no. Ooooh, you don't wanna do that! Aren't you silly?!")

But if they'll take me, I'm fucking going. Whatever it takes.

Edit: I called my nan to arrange Christmas, and all she said was that it was going to cost a lot of money and to look up loans on the internet and stuff.

The problem is, the course I want to do it a single year course, so doesn't qualify for the loans from banks like RBS - and I don't really understand all the bullshit on the SLC website.

I'm fully prepared to work while I'm studying - that's not a problem at all, assuming I can find a job for the evenings, it's just that £4,000 that worries me a bit. If I can get the maximum tuition fee loan from the SLC, that's £3,000. Hopefully, I should be able to save the remaining £1,000 before I go.

Unfortunately, there's no one in my family who could help me out - my dad has a business, but he was ripped off last year and he's still struggling to get on top of it. He has a six year old and twin babies, and while he was at home helping out last year, his staff turned out to be incompetent cunts. I just called him and he said he's been suffering from a trapped nerve in his neck for the last few months - so bad that he'd faint from the pain on the physio table - so he's been away even more. Then, just as he was getting on top of things, the tax bill came in. Ouch.

So basically, I wouldn't dream of asking for his support, and even if my mum had the money (which, she kind of does, having sold the house and moved to France, recently) I wouldn't ask her either, because we don't talk and haven't for years.

My uncle is broke because he can't sell the house he built, and my nan is on a state pension - not that I'd expect or ask them to give me money, either.

All in all, if I can do this, it's going to take an insane amount of saving and it's all going to be on me to achieve this. I'm going to call to ask if I can arrange an assessment on Monday, then I'll know what I have to do to make this happen, and whether I'm likely to be accepted or not. And how much I'm going to have to save and borrow.

God, I hope I can get in.

so... why is this unappropriate for minors?

When there's no hint of what's behind the cut i tend to not click, assuming it's fandomrelated or something

but wow. good luck and it should be illegal to charge that much for education. I think i pay 60 pounds a year + book at my uni...

My journal is set as Adult Concepts. It'll all appear like that, I think.

Go for it!
You can get your £3000 student loan, then student bank accounts which will give you an OD.

Fees I THINK... are paid back afterwards now as well.

I am not sure if your course is eligible but there are career development loans - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/AdultLearning/CareerDevelopmentLoans/index.htm

Good luck finding the funding. It sounds like a worthwhile and exciting course.

Yeah, unfortunately, those are only for courses of two years or more. :(

O_O Ooh!

Maybe I misread it.

Thanks, hon - that'd be an awesome help.

Have to get in first, though.
