Oh, I love it!

I still need to do this too. I should use my ipod, my computer has way more songs on it. I should do this tomorrow. *writes on list of a dozen or so things i should be doing instead of reading fanfiction* sighs.

I've been procrastinating from writing fanfiction all night, which is ridiculous, because I really want to get this done!

I've got a crossover fic still in progress which has been on the shelf for months now. I need to finish it, but so far lack the muse. :/

Which fandoms?

I'm working on a peculiar one - it's an AU set on Earth about two really obscure characters from Stargate: Atlantis.

[identity profile] lillystars.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not from a show. Hehe. It's RP slash fic (don't hate, please) and I used to write a lot of it some time ago, but not so much now. And under a different pen name in case you're wondering. It was 'tangerine' and I wrote Cure slash fic. The crossover is that with Lou Reed, Anthony Hegarty, and Tokio Hotel. The setting is in a western style bar with a flaming neon sign of a bucking bronco and it's rider. :)

I've watched Stargate! Not a lot, so I doubt I would be familiar with the characters. My brother is the Stargate fan though!

Not hating at all. I spent years slashing members of Fall Out Boy; they were total enablers about it, too. :)

Before that I used to write in a few other fandoms - Harry Potter, X-Men, Stargate: Atlantis (I was never as into Stargate: SG-1), Lord of the Rings to a degree, although I've no idea where that fic would be, now...

The characters I'm writing are so obscure that most fans wouldn't even recognise them if they weren't slashers themselves. They're a bit of a cult pairing.

[identity profile] lillystars.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The nice thing about a cult pairing is there are more aspects to the characters, inside jokes and the dialogue has a kind of intimacy which you don't always get with two people thrown together because the writer thought it would be fun to 'pair' them.

Oh, Harry Potter and LoTR, huh? Are you a purist when it comes to pairing characters or do you go way left?

[identity profile] rosiedoes.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The characters I'm writing were only ever in one ep together, but they nearly died together and it spawned them as a fanon ship that is always mentioned as a secondary or tertiary thing in other fics about the main characters. My old stuff is at [livejournal.com profile] damagereport; I don't think there's anything truly awful there (and it's mainly SGA and FOB stuff, but I do plan to update it with the X2 stuff at least).

The one I'm writing at the moment you could probably follow, because it's designed to be almost original fiction it's set far into the mountains of Idaho, and is essentially post-Stargate. The characters have virtually no canon backstory, so everything in it, except broad references to things that happen when living in another galaxy, is new.

I tend to go for obscure pairings when I write fic. In Bandom, most people shipped Patrick with Pete, because Pete went to great lengths to prompt the slashers; but paired him with Joe, instead. In HP I was more of a Sirius/Remus shipper and although I ship Harry/Draco a lot, when I was writing the epic fic I never completed, I made it damn hard on them and ended up pairing both with other characters. In Draco's case, with George Weasley (sounds impossible, but it made a lot more sense in context).

For LotR, I was very much a Merry/Pippin shipper - I was all for Sam/Frodo, but less interested in it.

More recently, in the Sherlock fandom, I completely ship Mycroft/Lestrade, and they haven't even met on screen!

[identity profile] lillystars.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually loled at this. Draco and George? Would this have been post war? (trying to remember which twin died - and I'm still outraged that JKR killed off a twin AND Hedwig. I loved that owl, dammit)

In the Bandom, are you saying that one of the actual band members encouraged slashers? That is pretty funny. I suspect that a lot of bands in some way, do things to facilitate fan fantasy. Wait, what am I saying, of course they do.

Merry/Pippin sounds more interesting than Sam/Frodo I must say. I still can't think of the scene at Mt. Doom without giggling though, mainly because my BF kept groaning at the OTT scene.
