rosiedoesIn the London Borough of HarrinGAY! where I live, the population consists mostly of black, Turkish and Greek people. There are black, Turkish and Greek gangs, or so I'm told. There are also persistent campaigns to end knife violence.
The current campaign, which was was obviously put through the local schools, features posters or badly-drawn, manga-ish emokids, and suggests that these are the people carrying the knives.
WHAT. THE. FUCK?!
Emokids are going to be sitting in their bedrooms trying to work out the chords to MCR songs - which, granted, do occasionally refer to murder, knives, herses... and doing push-ups in drag - but I am yet to hear of a knife attack made by an emokid. To the best of my knowledge, emoculture (yeah, yeah, I know - I use the term loosely) is more about haircuts and how tight you can wear your jeans. It's not about "Respec'" or status or who your "homies" are.
It's about being pretentious and crying your eyeliner off in your bedroom.
I'm not saying all black people, or Turks, or Greeks walk around carrying knives with malintent - but let's just say there were no emokids in the brawl by the bus stop, the other night.
I hate being misrepresented.
