Bob's processor has more or less died. I'm going to have to send him to the TechGuys again, but when they had Julie's laptop recently they failed to fix it twice and kept it for over a month in total.

I'd been planning to buy my friend's netbook to cover the absence, but then I had to spend a lot of money on flights to Sicily unexpectedly, so now things will be a bit tight.

Luckily, I still have Reg and access from work, otherwise, this would be even more of a pain in the arse.

In other news, went to see Paul again last night. The first time, my belt undid itself. This time the metal button on my jeans actually broke off. I guess nerds just have that effect on me...

The film is still awesome. We enjoyed noticing the stuff we didn't have time to catch the first time around. I already have a bit of a premise for a fic, but I'm not sure I'll bother.... Might keep it in my head. XD

It has been three weeks, but Ultra-Bob has a new CPU, a new thermal fan and a (second) new keyboard!

Hurrah!

This means I can finally - finally - get back on with my writing projects.

Techie people!

Does anyone know how to change the Network Key on a Sky wireless router, using Vista?

Holy shit, my computer has just been attacked.

I'm running PC Doctor Anti-Spyware with Anti Virus and after I'll run the Windows one.

Fucking hell. O_o

Edit: I think I fixed it. Because I am awesome, and can find source files and spot a rogue program like an internet ninja. Haiiiii-ya!

This is... mildly creepy.

On my laptop, my Gmail Notifier icon shows no new emails - it's all white; however, in the reflection on the plastic above the keyboard it is showing bright blue, as though there is a new email.

WTF, Ultra-Bob, WTF?

Phew. I just borrowed Viv's adaptor (we have the same laptop) and ordered a new one off Amazon for £27. I love that website, sometimes. Toshiba's site wanted £60 for it! Pffft.

I kind of didn't want to spend that, right now, but I get paid on Tuesday, thank God. I owe Julie millyuns of moneyz already for the car we hired for Yeovil. I might even be able to claim that money back from PC World, according to their customer service dude. I need to call up and tell them that they don't need to take my computer for TWO WEEKS, now. (Yes, they wanted to take it for two weeks because the adaptor broke. Dumbasses.)

In between times, me Julie* and I are off gallivanting most of the time, anyway, so I will get by with my Sidekick (which has done a sterling job this afternoon, I have to say. ILU Micro-Bob!) and possibly Viv's kindness.

I NEED YOU, INTERNET.

But for now I am going to hurriedly type up the utter bollocks I wrote this afternoon and try to make it half decent and Mpreg-worthy.

*this is a British joke for British people, I am not going twice. Because I is black.

OMFG. THE OLD LAPTOP HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD!

I just tried to start it up long enough to open the CD drawer and it fucking booted! This means I can get a USB cable and transfer everything!

Woot!

Best news evar.

Would there be such a thing as a kind of plug-in for Office 2007, to make their new version of Word in some way fucking usable?

This is pure horror.

Also, I just talked to my housemate and he has the same problem with his new Toshiba that I do: the windows and cursor bounce around. We're both assuming we're hitting a shortkey somewhere, but we're buggered if we can figure out what it is. Grr.

The new laptop - Ultra-Bob - is go.

Now to try to recover stuff. You have no idea how much I worship Foxmarks.

Can anyone remember the Greasemonkey link for Old Skool LJ?

Last night, my laptop died. As in, completely died. I think it was the motherboard (geeks: does that mean it would be likely that I can rescue anything?)

I just reserved a Toshiba A200-15I from PC World and I'm going to collect it shortly, but... gah. Everything was on that laptop. Fortunately, most of my writing has been recently emailed or published, and most of my music is directly from a CD. The stuff I really need but wasn't, is on my MP3player or the upload I send [livejournal.com profile] jackie_brown the other day.

Unfortunately, my photos aren't. I have ton of pictures of my friends, of Vancouver, of the bands I'm into... so, if anyone would like to send me pics, I will love you forever. Thankfully, all the stuff I'm doing for Holy Roman Empire is in emails, as well. That would have been a nightmare. I was already planning on backing that up on Google Docs - seems like I was right about that.

I'm on Mapie's ancient desktop, right now and I just realised how much I hate these things. LAPTOPS FOREVER!

Right, then - I'm off to shower and head to PC World. :(

I'm thinking about getting a graphics tablet. Does anyone have any suggestions or information on that?
rosiedoes: (Mood: Geek)
Okay. At the end of August, I'm planning to buy a new laptop (on finance, I'm not that loaded).

The question is, Macbook or PC?

Convince me.

(Bearing in mind that the one time I used a Mac in the past I was just really confused.)

I'M BACK!

Yes, they got the laptop back to me in about 36 hours. Which was nice. What wasn't nice was the fact that they erased all of my bookmarks. All of them.

ARGH.

Am pacifying myself with The Lovely Kim Stolz on ANTM.

I love that girl so much. <333

Feck.

Laptop is still here. DHL didn't bother showing up. This means one of two things: they will turn up unannounced tomorrow, or I will have to rearrange to have it picked up next week, if I can get the time off.

A laptop stuck open at 90(wobbly)° does not travel well, so I can't get them to pick it up from me at work.

Poor Dushyant was very apologetic when he phoned to make sure the collection had been made. I assured him it was alright and that I knew it wasn't their fault.

However, he's still calling me Miss Nakasha. Which isn't my surname, but a wild mispronunciation thereof.

Rushed off to psychic development and did another seance.

All I'm saying is 'Well, fuck.' which won't mean anything to you, but it does to me. O_o Oh yeah.

Must learn to trust myself.

Grr.

I've a feeling the courier came today, and Mapie turned him away. I woke up at half ten to the sound of the front door shutting, and the sound of a van starting up. Outside, just driving away was a Parcel Force van.

I called Dell to check which company they use and was told that they used DHL. But it's nearly three and I'm starting to get concerned. >:(

So, I'm home from Naneth's. Saw Cousin Stevie Who Looks Increasingly Like Matt Damon, today. Met his girlfriend. Sweet girl.

Hopefully, they're going to be picking up the laptop, tomorrow. This means I will only have internet at work for anything up to ten working days. Not sure how I'm going to survive, but this does mean you won't hear from me, much. Still, I'm going to end up with a nicely polished laptop, hopefully without a wonky hinge and sticking keys, so that will be nice.

I see a few early nights in my future. I could probably do with them.

Thank goodness for cable TV and approximately three million channels.

I'll try to post tomorrow, before they steal, it, but if not - see you in the week.

GAY!

Apparently, it's not just penguins...

Also, after much Decidely English Complaining, Dell now say that they can just replace the cover for my VDU which, including service and VAT will cost just £151.00. A marked improvement on the original quote of £325, I feel.

It was also mentioned that, aside from the motherboard and hard drive, if there is anything on it that is a bit wonky and needs fixing up they will do that do.

Therefore, I do think I FUCKING WIN.

It pays to politely complain, kids (and threaten to go to PC World in future).

FUCK THAT SHIT.

Dell can FUCK OFF.

The engineering department called to give me a quote on fixing that broken hinge peg. £325.00 Can you believe that? When I explained that there was just one small piece of metal to replace, the customer service rep told me, in broken English, that they never ship those parts alone, and that they would have to replace the whole thing.

THE WHOLE TOP HALF OF MY COMPUTER! For a fucking hinge peg! At £325.00! Plus service!

I said that was ridiculous. Indian man asked if he could call back in a few minutes. He did. "My manager says, as you have only two years [almost to the day] I give you discount: £311.00 thankyouplease*."

Rosie said: "That's ridiculous. I am not paying £300.00 for a hinge peg. I'm going to complain to your head office in Texas, as they have already contacted me directly. This is appalling. Please not to be fucking with me, thankyouplease*."

And thus I shall. Fuck this shit. I can buy a laptop from PC World for £500 which has a hard drive a whole third larger than my existing one, and with 1GB memory (I'm on 512Mb). I could buy it on HP at under £14.00 per month, and yes, I'd have to pay interest, but at least it wouldn’t be a Dell machine. Fuck. That. Shit.

Bitches. They can kiss my rosy behind if they think they're conning me out of the price of a computer (check their website! They'll sell you a whole laptop for that!)

SRSLY. You cannot electrocute me with an AC adaptor I only bought six months ago, then have my monitor replaced because some crappy hinge peg was badly made and then expect me to part with that much cash WITHIN A WEEK because I WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP.

*cracks knuckles, plans email to Dell International Head Office*

*Okay, maybe not that last bit.

Well, fuck.

rosiedoes: (Mood: Spirit)
So, after the fandango with my charger, the right-hand hinge on my laptop has snapped internally.

This means I can't close my monitor, and the hinge itself is pushing the plastic away from the screen.

Joy. This is just what I need.

I wonder how much Dell are going to charge me to fix it.

Also, there was Psychic Development and it all went weird and oh dear God, I think I'm on the travelator like you get at the airport. And walking.

This is some weird, weird shit.
