Fuck this Shit

So, the whole fandango with LJ screwing up our service is getting really out of hand. Some communities are being suspended on the grounds that they have TOO MANY TAGS - even thought one of the communities involved doesn't use ANY TAGS AT ALL.

If you're pissed off with LJ, and would consider logging out for JUST ONE DAY to make your dissatisfaction known in a fashion more serious than angry comments, you might want to join [livejournal.com profile] awaydayprotest.

If you need your memory refreshed about why people are pissed off, right now, here's a run down:

  • back in the day, we were promised that the Six Apart take over would not mean any changes to our service. Well... is it just me, or...?
  • adverts: they said never. And yet, hello plus+ accounts;
  • continued issues with service - the whole site is up and down like a heroin yo-yo, leaving literally hundreds of thousands of users buggered until they get their shit together again;
  • 'database' issue when commenting and failed post messages that have been going on for weeks;
  • communities being suspended for false excuses;
  • the Horizon scandal: not only did they feel the need to make a fucking diabolical and dumbed-down default scheme for the site, they forced the members with enough intelligence not to require a pre-schoolers' reading book-sized font and words of less than three syllables to opt-out, instead of the rather less aggravating and altogether more considerate opt-in;
  • their continued refusal to give user the opt-in/opt-out option on the newer, less practical and in many cases connection-crashing 'Post to Journal' page (once known as the Update Page), which was launched without any beta-testing, didn't work in several browsers, was unreadable in others - and entirely without any prior notice;
  • LJ and Six Apart's general inability to comprehend the concept of Good Customer Service: not listening to customer opinion, not giving the paying customer a stable and satisfactory level of service, entirely blanking the userbase when they complain and ultimately, the somewhat pseudo-parental attitude of, "Because I said so".

    In a nutshell, a lot of people are really pissed, and so we're thinking of voting with our connections for just one day. Are you in?
