Thinking about buying this camcorder to take to Chicago (and on investigations).

Techie types - I don't really understand the jargon, although I know it has night vision, can someone explain to me how I get the footage onto my computer and what recording format it uses (ie. it says DVD but that seem absurd on a camera that size)?

Thankyouplease.

it says DV,

these sort of tapes...

And the way I put the footage on my computer is just plugging in either a USB wire or a firewire and it transfers the footage.

Connections
Connector Type: 1 x IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK) ¦ 1 x composite video/audio output

means you need to check if your computer has a firewire plug to connect the camcorder...

and btw, there are DVD camcorders but you don't want those, the quality isn't as good.

when i did research to buy mine, mini DV is the best format

Awesome! Thanks, Carla.

I think I'll invest in one.

JVC's don't actually have nightvision, just a slow shutter night mode. If you want true infrared nightvision on your camcorder, the only major company that offers it is Sony. I wouldn't recommend anything else for that kind of thing. You'll either want the DCR-HC38 or the DCR-HC48 for what you're looking for.

Low/zero lux suffices for everyone else in my investigation team, so I think it'll be fine.

Thanks, though.
