bandom_awards.
We just declined to promote it on
trohslashstump. Mostly, neither Lin nor I are comfortable with the way we've seen these go in the past. Essentially, the better-known writers in the most common ships will be the ones who win. Even if virtual un-knowns are nominated, they rarely win and for a community centred around a rarer ship with three full-time writers and not much else, it seems pretty pointless.
All we can see it doing, is leaving the few people who occasionally do attempt to write fic kind of disillusioned. People in bandom really suck at leaving feedback (when I think of the essays I used to get every chapter, for my HP fic, back in the day, I'm kind of shocked by the contrast) so when the lesser-known writers are getting maybe four "That was cute!" comments and then the really well-known (and not necessarily that brilliant) writers are getting loads of minions telling them how awesome they are and go and win these kind of things it must really fucking suck for everyone else.
It just doesn't feel very productive to me.

on 2007-12-01 06:26 pm (UTC)I've been nominated in other fandoms a few times, but I just feel kind of bad when I am. One awards I actually asked not to be included in.
I don't want to say, 'I don't wantto be nomitated' in this one, because that would be insanely arrogant and presumptuous, but yeah... not sure how this is going to pan out.

on 2007-12-01 07:11 pm (UTC)This sort of thing would be awesome if it would work. But even if they had a category for each paring, or a "lesser known writer" category it still wouldn't work. People will find a way to vote for their friends no matter what you do.
I used to think the mark of a good fic / author was winning these sorts of things / getting put on

on 2007-12-02 04:42 am (UTC)I'm just a bit uncomfortable with awards altogether. Especially being one of three writers who actually bother with my ship, you know?
If you want to, I won't say don't, but I won't be mentioning it here. I'll let people vote on the basis of whether they've bothered to read the fic or not.
Frankly, though, a Joe/Patrick fic isn't going to win anything if it doesn't have it's own category.
