Has anyone here ever been to Denny's and would therefore be able to tell me about what the places are like?

What kind of place they are, really. I hear they're usually found along the Interstate and are therefore legitimately usable in tour fic.

I basically need to know what the service is like inside. Is it like, waitress service like a bog-standard diner (but branded) or is it more McDonald's-y 'order-take-sit'?

it's waitress service, definately found on highways, but not at rest-stops, but more likely when highways pass through built up areas. it's kind of like a bog standard diner, if you want i can e-mail you some pictures that were take in one so you can see what the interior is like.

Dude, that would be awesome! Thank you.

I haven't specified the location, there's just a scene taking place in one, at the moment and I want to throw in a few details.

Denny's is just another one of those chain restaurants you can find in just about every state. I've been to a couple and basically the only thing that sets them apart in my mind was the claw machine my little sister and I played with. We actually won a stuffed Roadrunner. That and that they had the runniest eggs I've ever glanced at.

Hehe. Thanks, hon. I think I'm okay with the scene, now.

Yeah, this is in the early days, when he went back to veggie for a while because it was impossible to keep up on tour. I think he's only eaten fries in the scene anyway.

Fries may not be vegetarian, of course. They're often cooked with Beef tallow, IIRC.

I sorta assumed you'd know this and check up on it, but just in case I've done so for you - Denny's fries are vegetarian. A quick google confirms this.

This page is interesting though:
http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/OtherInfo/Dennys.htm

Food may be cooked on grills that also cooked meat, and bread is locally sourced - so may not be vegetarian.

That's gotta be detail worth mentioning in casual conversation, for that note of real authenticity! ;-)

we went to denny's three times in chicago because it was down the road from our motel (we were on, like, a motorway) & there were the nicest fucking people ever, this guy who let us off two bucks & chatted to us for ages when he said he was bored & this sweet middleaged lady who called us all 'honey' & asked if us girls were in a band or something (haaaaa). jen's vegetarian & she was fine there because they do boca burgers or something which are meatless. yeahh. i want a denny's in this country. i want a chicago in this country.
