Forgot to post this, yesterday, but that skydive I'm doing to raise money for Jumping For Heroes got the girls who are doing it a mention from the real Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron. Mind blown.

If you can't see my last post and are interested in knowing more or want to sponsor me, let me know.

I saw this when you posted it over on [livejournal.com profile] rosiesskydive and I totally meant to comment. (I got up to get something and forgot what I was doing before - a constant problem in my life.)

I think this is really fucking awesome. In fact, my reaction when I saw the post was simply, "WOW!" I would be totally blown away to be mentioned by someone I considered to be as great as these guys are.

I will poke my friends list in the next day or so, to see if I can get some folk to sponsor you.

Thanks, hon. When Ross (the organiser) posted the message telling us about it I thought he was kidding.

They're such hilarious old dudes but I really can't get my head around the fact that they know we're doing this jump in their honour.

I keep wanting to write a long and heartfelt post explaining why this all matters to me so much, but it seems like nothing I say is fully adequate or truly reflects the enormity of their achievements.

They really are great guys I think it's really cool that they know what you are doing and why. What they did...if I had to use a single word, it would be amazing, though that isn't truly adequate.

I know what you mean in the last line. I recently had to sit and write something for a reading I said I'd do at chapel on the one-year anniversary of Eva's death, and it was really fucking hard to find the words to express how much the short time I knew her meant to me, and why I think how she lived despite her challenges was so awesome. My one sheet of A4 turned into three sheets, and really, there is still so much that I wanted to say but didn't get to. So yeah... *hugs*

(Seeing all of Band of Brothers really helped me understand why the show and the real-life E-company mean so much to you. While I always respected it, and I just have a lot of respect for WWI/WWII veterans in general, I don't think I truly 'got it' until I saw the show from start to finish.)

When I watch Band of Brothers, the bit that makes me cry the most is the narration at the end, telling us how they lived out their lives, going back to jobs on the railroad, or as taxi drivers or teachers. A lot of them went on to care for others or teach.

I reminds you that they were - or are - all very real people who never really felt like heroes. Their modesty and their humility should be an example to us all.

I'm sorry you lost your friend, hon; hopefully the money raised will help others with her condition.

I think that is the greatest thing about these men - their humility, that they never expected great acknowledgement. I think too many people these days forget that there are more important things in life and reasons for doing things than money or acclaim. People today would do well to watch, see these men and reassess what is actually important.

Thanks. I really do hope that I live to see one of the days she dreamed of, when CF = Cure Found.
