Holy shit.

I'm online at the hotel. Bloody expensive!

Guess who's here! CHUCK CAMPBELL! He's a lovely little dude. We met him last night and he's really into the idea of the dances. He got mobbed in the foyer, yesterday and disappeared. This is his first con, and I don't think he counted on being so popular.

The Hewlett made Julie freak out, talking about spiders, and then started being adorably obnoxious and telling worse ones ("I'm loving this!" *points wildly at her as she cowers* "So, right..." *tells spider horror story*) and David Nykl remembered me from SG-10. That was pretty funny.

We started this morning with Dan Payne's talk - he's a lot of fun, and so is Ryan Robbins. They're apparently really good friends in real life (and Aaron Douglas, too - he's here again. He's supposed to be MCing, but I've not seen him MC since the party last night). They're doing a new show! It's called Sanctuary, I think - they're all going to be in it, so is Chuck. And the best bit? They've told us PAUL MCGILLION IS TOO! I'm so happy! This show is like a Stargate retirement home.

Excited. So very excited. I have something I can turn to now Atlantis sucks more balls than a Bankok ladyboy.

*prays for Joe and Boyan to get roles*

Erin Chambers is a bit too girly for me to like a lot. I mean - she's nice, but in the really American, "OH MY GOD - YEAH! THAT'S SO COOL!!" way. Bleh. Does look a whole lot like Jami Gertz, though. Seriously.

Brian, the organiser, is bein a cunt, mind. He's banned the people who sell photos from selling pictures of the people they have here. This means hardly anyone has anything they can get signed. It also scuppers my plans to get pictures autographed and auction them for Lakota-Aid. Instead I'm getting people to autograph a picture of the City. Hopefully it will get more than a single pic of the actors would because of the extra autographs. Frankly, they're ripping us off. We get a free autograph from everyone with our ticket, and yet they won't let us buy things to sign. They have pictures on sale from Wolf, but those are £10 each, because you get an autograph with the cost of one. How mean is that? I mean - if you won't let us provide our own, provide them for us, for fuck's sake!

The fact is, I will NEVER COME TO A WOLF CONVENTION AGAIN and I urge the rest of you to boycott them, too. They'll only rip you off.

I got a novel signed by the writers, though (writers as in books, not writers as in show. Martin Gero had better hope we are never within arm's reach, as it will endager his health) but I'm going to keep those. They have my name on, anyway.

We're now off to see Ivy Isenberg, who has promised us secrets. O_o

Interesting. Update tonight.

NANOO NANOO!

Banned them? What a bastard. I bet the people selling stuff are pissed off too - they probably paid for those concession stands and I would bet they will make a hell of a lot less if they can't cash in on the people who are actually there.

I told you last year I had heard very bad things about Wolf and the way they are run. The SFX con a few years ago was ruined by his meglomania, and he also somehow worked it so only he had the rights to run future SFX conventions (meaning that Future Publishing and SFX magazine could not run their own unless they paid him vast amounts of money for a shoddy service.)

As the convention he did run was far too expensive (for SFX and for the fans) and an utter shambles they didn't think that was a great idea.

This is why there are no more proper SFX conventions anymore. They don't have a right to their own product name in this context.

He has a reputation for overworking the actors and treating the fans like shit.

I am glad you are having fun and that you have found out that McGillion etc have got work! Keep us posted.

Brian attempted the same last year, and to be honest, I agree with [livejournal.com profile] elethe, I find him a bit of a meglomaniac. And having been to one of Collectormania's events late last year made me realise how tight Wolf's events are with the whole fan interaction thing. The age we spent talking to Kavan at GMex would NEVER happen at a Wolf evernt. Everyone just seemed a hell of a lot more relaxed. I expect David Hewlett will be doing the same as Joe Flanigan did last year - still signing autographs on the photo-ops in the departure lounge because there were that many to be done.

To be honest, the only reason I will be attending another Wolf con is because I still have a ticket to transfer out to another event - though which one is undecided.

Glad the guests are turning out to be so cool. And yay! for McGilly and more work...
