Okay. At the end of August, I'm planning to buy a new laptop (on finance, I'm not that loaded).

The question is, Macbook or PC?

Convince me.

(Bearing in mind that the one time I used a Mac in the past I was just really confused.)

It depends how much time you have on your hands to learn a new OS and loads of new software. Even software of the same name on the two platforms is different. And often there isn't a Mac version - you'll have to look for a 'like' replacement for that item. In officialdom, the software is more expensive, and in unofficialdom you will probably struggle to find certain things.

This is where a Mac user jumps up and mentions Parallels. While the idea of installing XP to run on a Mac sounds great, the reality is that Macs come with much smaller HDs as standard - as you already noted - and any attempts at running two operating systems are going to seriously cut into your drive space. And to be honest, it begs the question of the point of spending the extra money on a Mac to use it as a PC. I know for a fact if I had that capability, my Mac would spend most of its life in 'PC Mode' - I might as well use the money to buy a higher spec PC laptop and a copy of XP to replace Vista. I could probably even add a sizeable external HD into the equation as well.

Mac users are full of bragging about how Macs seldom have the problem of viruses. The same would be true of PCs if everyone in the world secured them properly with a decent firewall and anti-virus suite. I've had the grand total of ONE virus in 10 years of owning a PC. Mac users only enjoy the lack of viruses because they are in the minority of computer ownership. If the tables were turned and PCs were less common, they'd be singing an entirely different tune.

And srsly, the single mouse button thing really irks me...I like my context menus without having to press buttons on my keyboard.
