US kids - what month do you finish your penultimate year of high school? June or July?

Also, what when do you start sending applications to colleges?

Jammy buggers. We don't break up from school until the end of July!

Most public school systems finish up by the middle of May, actually. And I started sending out college applications the summer before I started my last year of high school, I think? So, not quite a year before I graduated.

most public school systems in my area, that is.

Cool. This would be a private school, though.

Is the year before graduation pretty much the norm or were you just really on the ball? XD

depends. up north schools run from september to june, usually, but here down south it's from august to may, if only because of the hurricane seasons starting in june and then also the heat keeping us from thinking.

we can start sending in applications in junior year, although it counts only as early admission until you're a senior.

you've probably got an answer but I'm gonna say it anyways. I assume you mean our last year of high school? or the last year it counts? we start filling out applications our junior year, if we're really really worried, but usually around late late winter or early spring our senior year. but we all finish the same month, every class does, but senior have more free time, lax y'know? because the second semester's really just for those select few who need the grade to boost their GPA.

haha, truth be told, seniors in their second and final semester do NOTHING.

my school ends seniors six weeks early and idk what they even do then, but they have to have a three week internship doing SOMETHING, and then there's grad bash sometime in the middle of that and graduation. beyond that, i've never seent hem do anything at all during that last semester.

I know! ^-^ mostly senior's will leave after their one class, because we have a system where we have to get a certain amount of credits in our four years to graduate. so we have four classes a semester, and two semesters, but some classes are half a credit and some are two semesters for one credit like Alegebra A and B. it's just all screwed up. We have internships for juniors second semester and up, but you have to keep your grades really high and you have to have a liscence and you CAN'T skip class. mostly people without discipline referrals (or a certain amount of them) are only signed to do internships though.

US schooling is WEIRD.

Everyone so far has given me a totally different answer.

I meant 11th Grade - assuming that at the end of 12th you'd have time off for exams and technically finish early. I know we do.

The premise being someone going into their final year of highschool and thinking how they were last year in month X.

The issue with colleges is whether someone going into their final year would have the time to choose to apply to the same ones as their friends.

well it's different in each city, and then each state, and then by region. like before, the north starts earlier because of weather, it would drive us southerns crazy sitting in school in that goddamn heat, it's bad enough at home. the attention levels aren't high, to say the least ^-^ finishing early is an option here, but you'd graduate in january and you'd be barred from prom as a student of the school. really only people going to junior college and then regular college do that.

Really, choosing the same colleges as your friends isn't an issue. Because we're/you're at that age where you're concerned for your life so you're going to do what's best for yourself no matter what -- some people get pushed into colleges by their families though. Some choose colleges according to what they can afford. Usually you only see couples, bigtime in-the-long-run couples choosing the same college, but they pick colleges that aren't specifically known for one major area of study so they can both get their seperate degrees.

Hehehe. Well, exactly.

But this rules them out anyway because they'd already have chosen their colleges.

And looking up colleges I just found something that reinforces my plot point anyway. But I wanted to have them not be able to go to the same college.

I think I started sending college acceptance in like.. December.. I dunno.. They take early acceptance. But I think the deadline is usually either February or March? Except you have to send in Financial Aid in February, too.

I don't know why I'm trying to answer this question. I am so old I don't remember.

I asked Kelly about the end date. She went to private school in Chicago.

When I was in high school (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), the school year ended in June; and I started applying at colleges mid-junior year. If I was insanely nerdy, I would've gone with sophomore year. But, I'm not *that* bad!

We finish high school in June. Generally you start looking for colleges in your Junior year of school, but if you're lazy like I am you rush during the beginning of your Senior year. Each school is different when it comes to deadlines, but it's good to have your applications out before Christmas.

Oh wow. I am really sorry.

Saying that I was drunk at the time doesn't exactly mitigate circumstances, but hopefully that helps explain why I was so random and obnoxious.

Anyway, sorry to bother. Just happened to see that we know some of the same ppl and ventured a lame, intoxicated introduction. lol
