From Vicky-T's MySpace bullentin:

"Hello there, I have a music store ... you can buy my tunes. I know a lot of you have asked for em!

Included is a new track called "Black and Light." The song lyrics were written by Ashlee Simpson and myself. The track was recorded on Garageband. I recorded keys, Patrick Stumph recorded the bass and drums with midi.

All and all pretty collaborative. It's short, a bit dark ... and yet a bit dancy."

I have no words. But my brain just melted.

Wow, that's like some sort of nightmare. Ashlee better stay far away from Patrick before she corrupts his talent with her spectacularly shitty idea of music. I don't care what she does with Pete but the idea of her writing music with them makes me want to go pound my head against the wall. And I can never figure out if I like Vicky-T or not but this post sort of pushes me over the line that extra bit towards Not.
**Walking away now to pretend this whole thing never happened**

I didn't even know Ashlee wrote lyrics. When her tv show was on (and God help me I watched part of it, it was like a train wreck) they would call in some famous songwriter to help her with her album and they would 'write' together. Basically it would go something like this:
Guy: So how do you feel today Ashlee?
A: Um...uhhh...kinda bad, my friend was so lame.
Guy: ...okay, why?
A: Idunno, He was being dumb and he came over and we
fought. He's so lame. hahahahahahahahaha
Guy then proceeds to write song about the heartbreak of unrequited love or something from that 'inspiration' (you get the idea)

Oh, wow... I never really liked her, and now I know why :))

But dear God...Ashless Simpson 'helped' with the lyrics? WHY, oh WHY?

I have no idea. I got the impression Vicky-T disliked her, for some reason.

Dislike her?!? Nobody dislikes Ashlee Simpson. j/k

And I remembered why I didn't like Vicky-T: the Maxime photos. It was just bad marketing and bad taste.

I disagree about that.

Members of bands like Cobra Starship shouldn't pose in magazines like that. It ruins their credibility and all that. I doubt 12-year old, pimply and breast-less girls were too happy with the pics. For the bad marketing part.
As for the 'bad taste' part, it's just a personal opinion, of course.

I'm kind of appalled by your attitude.

Most of those were pre-existing pics. None of them were inappropriate, she looked demure and well-covered in all of them. She didn't ask to be made their girl of the day, they chose her.

I couldn't give a fuck about pimply twelve year olds, but frankly, I'd rather them see that an intelligent, talented and natural-looking girl like Vicky-T can be regarded as highly attractive to guys as well as the fake-boobed, bleach-haired slappers that usually feature in men's magazines.

As a fan, I'm damn proud of her and I'm really glad that she has been acknowledged. 'Bands like Cobra Starship' - whose entire ethos is to not take things too seriously, have fun and be awesome - are exactly the kind of people who can do this sort of thing without their credibility being tarnished.

I'm just... shocked, honestly.

Good!
I was actually trying to imitate the attitude of those 12 year olds that I was talking about. Think of this from their perspective.
They all have crushes on Gabe, or Pete or William or whatever. And they are, naturally, jealous of Vicky-T. Because she's older and prettier(bad word to use; can't think of a better one now) than they are at the moment. Plus, she's closer to all those OMG so hawt!!!! dudes. The number of fan girls that like her or even look up to her is much, much smaller than the number of those that are jealous of her.(And at that age, it's perfectly understandable).
They are aware that their fanbase is quite young.(Ryland, I believe, said that in a recent interview).
It's kind of a bit contradictory.
And contradiction doesn't go with good marketing.

Random comment off Buzznet, from one of the Maxim pics:
she's gorgeous
it's not fair D=

I honestly fear for her safety if she and Patrick ever hook up :-s
/marketer's point of view

Personally, I would have done the same things, had I been in that situation. Though I don't really like the pictures. Or her for that matter. Something about her just doesn't add up. I could be relying too much on my intuition. Or maybe I'm just jealous :))

Cobra Starship needs to grow out of the FBR fanbase. And I think they will, pretty soon. A bunch of my friends, that aren't into 'that indie, emo, whatever shit' I listen to, totally loved their songs. They're gonna be huge one day.
