In exciting developments in the TV industry, broadcaster UKTV is revamping on of its channels in advance of launching it on the digital platform Freeview. The rebranding of the UKTV G2 channel will include a change of name.
The channel's new name? 'Dave'.
'Changing the channel name to Dave enables us to create a strong and noisy personality for the channel that immediately aligns us with our core 16-34 male audience,' explained Steve North, who is the head of Dave.
Dave, which launches on October 15, will specialise in comedy and factual entertainment.
UKTV explained that Dave's name was chosen on the grounds that 'everyone knows a bloke called Dave.'
'There's a definite opportunity for a channel like Dave on Freeview,' commented Julie Jordan, executive director for business and operations at UKTV.
She added: 'The younger male audience is of very high value commercially and this demographic is currently under-served in Freeview homes.'
Dave will be on air between 7am and 3am.
