got bitterness? vs. a revelation on true connection (and the award goes to).

the first reaction is jealousy mixed with a slight sense of entitlement. we just want to be a part of your club. we feel like the orphans in the movie the warriors, when we are just dying to be the baseball furies. the truth be told though when you explore it further than that you realize much more. other than the fact that we play the events for you and the right parties all the time (which is a bit embarrassing either for you or us, not sure which, possibly both. its kind of like being invited to a birthday party and then not allowed to eat the cake.)- it shouldnt mean much. (almost) noone in this industry has vision beyond the fear that this week is their last paycheck. we want our songs to be immortal and a statue doesnt do anything to help them live forever. it is the people that live and die with them in their ears and throats that give them life. we wont lie to you, accolades from our peers feel great. however, a fifty year old white man shouldnt decide whether we are relevant or not- and he doesn't. we wanted to thank you for making us feel relevant- for sitting up all night to get into our shows and for buying our music. it means more in the wake of moments like this. we know who we are based on those who would walk through hell with us. this is not a disappointment, rather a revelation on what is truly important. thanks.

Someone's pissed that Paramore got nominated, aren't they?

Well, I was thinking about this, and it's not like FOB would've been nominated in that category again, anyway-- nor do I think Paramore will actually win. If I were Pete, I'd be more pissed that people like Fergie are nominated than Paramore.

Well, he says he's jealous.

I think basically, he's pissed off that his proteges have been nominated for something and they just haven't.

This is pretty much the first awards for ages where they haven't even been nominated for shit.

Oh, I can understand where he'd be jealous. Even Panic! & MCR were nominated for their fucking box sets.

Personally, I feel slightly vindicated about the whole thing.

I fucking hate Infinity on High.

There are definitely songs I skip and lyrics I roll my eyes at, which I had never really done with their earlier stuff... but I've just read so many damned articles and interviews with Patrick talking about how proud he is of the record and how it was the one they wanted to make and that just makes me like it, even if it doesn't make sense. I wanted them to be nominated because THEY think that it's worthy, not because, as a whole, it necessarily was. They've also done a shit job of choosing singles if their goal was to get recognized.

Well, I've heard a rumour that the rest of the band are less proud (but I guess they just don't want to hurt Patrick's feelings). This was his big Must! Prove! Self! experiment, and I just think it all got a bit out of hand.

That's not to say I don't support them and wish they'd been up for something, but I seemed to be one of very few people who really didn't think the album was all that... and now I know that probably isn't the case.

Feeling vindicated isn't the same as being pleased they weren't, you know?

I'm not shocked to hear that Andy isn't into it. As much as I like the dude, I can never quite understand why he's in the band, especially after that Drum! article where he waxes poetic about his hardcore days and seems forced to talk about IOH, not to mention all of the stories about how they had to absolutely beg him to join the band in the first place. He sometimes seems like he'd be much happier still playing dirt clubs for no money. Except then there wouldn't be any groupies. Oh, Andy.

But I certainly know what you're talking about. I don't think you're like, cackling and clapping your hands with glee over there because they didn't get recognized.

Well... I only cackled a little bit at his post... O_o

(Not rly)

But I think Joe's probably in the same boat with this album. I just can't imagine him wanting to listen to that stuff - I kind of expect him to just want to keep the peace and do what all the others want on that front. Knowing his tastes, though, this album is so not a Joe album.

This time around, I think that the album was much, much more calculated than ever before. It's all bells and whistles and LOOK WHAT I CAN DO! I've only actually admitted this to Lin and Julie in the last few weeks, but as great and powerful as it clearly is, Patrick's 'New' Voice does nothing for me. It's a brilliant voice, don't get me wrong, but I miss him singing like he used to. I actually enjoyed listening to that.
