Uncomfortable truths:

1. No matter how much you may want to be, you are not the centre of the Universe. Not you, not me, not anyone.

2. People aren't perfect. If you want to take other people's imperfections or other people's hectic lifestyles personally, that's a flaw of yours, too.

3. People have differing opinions. That's it. You can debate it, but you can't expect everyone to share your way of thinking. FREE THOUGHT: not a crime. Yet.

4. Communities and personal journals are different entities: different rules and etiquette apply. Truefuckingstory.

5. Joe Trohman is a founding member of Fall Out Boy. Shocking as this concept may be, it is a True Fact.

6. Anonymous hatemail is the most pathetic, spineless, cowardly thing you can do to someone. You may think it makes you clever, but whether you're doing it to my friends, or to someone who does potentially deserve it, taking that route makes you the lowest kind of shit on the sidewalk. If you have something to say, say it and stand by it. At least you'll have that modicum of respect to retain.

7. The only time it will ever be exciting for a picture of someone drinking Starbucks to be posted is if the picture IS OF ELVIS FUCKING PRESLEY, sorry to say.

8. DOGS CAN'T TYPE. Or post photos. And it's kind of creepy to pretend they can. Let's leave that to the cats.

9. You are not morally obliged to follow the opinions of your idols - respect and investigate them, but don't crawl up their arses because you think it will show you in a favourable light; most people are more interested in others when they can form an opinion and argue their own view point - rather than simpering minions who will think what they're told.

10. Just because most of a fandom is fourteen years old, it doesn't mean everyone involved has to act that way.

...any additions?

Here, here.

Additions- They may be dating someone in the band, but this does not immediately make them a bitch or a slut. No matter how many articles you read, you do not know the band and you are in no position to judge their decisions about their love lives.

Well, I can agree with the bit about them not automatically being bitches/sluts, but not the second part. I think you can tell a lot about people from their appearance - from the way they choose to dress, the way they carry themselves, their general presentation - if you know what to look for, especially if you have good intuition, and it's okay to have misgivings about people if you're concerned for someone.

Chasing them down and stabbing them with a pitchfork is kind of less okay, though.

Oh, we have it all, all the time.

One of the nicest, non-wankiest people I know has been getting hatemail for months; one kid is throwing a pissy fit because people don't acknowledge her enough; the main newsletter posts hundreds and hundreds of pics and links to Pete's stuff, and yet totally ignored the last two entries Joe made (including a post of a page torn from a magazine, where his new signature guitar was like #8 in a top ten things to buy - for actual guitarists, not just kids - and he was all excited about it); opinions are officially Not Allowed unless you're sheeping it; fans all over the place are generally sucking up to the band because they think it will make them instant BFFs and every band member's dog has a fake MySpace, now. It's fucking creepy.

That's a shame about Joe's guitar. I guess some people have different ideas about what makes people interesting. Personally, I find that stuff of way more consequence than that stuff about who x is dating.

A lot of juvenile behaviour there, also. I really do not understand that ass-licking bullshit.

And O___o regarding the fake doggie MySpaces.

The thing is, the newsletter journal itself used to collect everything. Every blogpost, every article, every picture. Now it's really only on there if it involves Pete or Patrick.

People have pointed this out to them, recently, and they still ignore Joe's blog.

It was his fucking idea to start a band in the first place!

So, totally like the McShepSGA fandom then?

That really sucks hardcore. One guy starts a band and two of the others get all the interest. You'd think people would want to hear it all. Though people gravitating towards certain band members is nothing new.

Ignoring people's requests isn't cricket on the part of the newsletter. If they don't want to provide impartial coverage, they should say so. Then someone else can fill in the gap.

We do have [livejournal.com profile] jewtheph for all the Joe stuff, but that's just a Joe comm, not any kind of unofficial newsletter, you know?

It's just really disappointing. Most of the fans don't think Joe has any personality beyond being a lisping stoner.

I think you should start your own FOB community. One that will be Joe friendly and not just post every lame post Pete makes in his umpteen blogs.

Just sayin'.

Well, I already run a lot of comms, dude - and the fact that I'm the one behind it would mean most people instantly ignored it.

What would be the point?

Hah.

That is the second icon made from one of my comments.
