Dear Americans (particularly those in print),

The correct spelling of the term used when a minor blunder is made is "OOPS" - that's two 'o's and one 'p'. It is NOT 'Opps'.

I know we have differences is some spellings, but this is simply wrong.

That reminds me: Firefox hates me typing "colour" and "grey" even though that's how I'm used to spelling those words.

Meh. How come you spell them that way, anyway?

It was just how I was taught and I read stuff that spelled those words in that way. So they became right in my head.

You can add dictionaries for UK and Canadian English to Firefox so you can get along with spellcheck again. :)

We use 'oops' here, too. But yeah, it's one of those words that's mangled a lot.

Maybe they're trying to be clever and misspell their commentary in their misspellings? Which is, uh, less clever and more annoying, frankly.

I think it's just received stupidity - like saying, "I could care less," instead of "I couldn't care less," or switching the subject of a sentence by saying, "We all can't fit," when they mean "We can't all fit."

wtf? I've never seen that in my life, except for typos on the internets. I wouldn't say this is an American problem, I'd say it is a stupid problem.

I've only seen Americans do it. And today, Perez Hilton drew it on a picture. That's no typo.

I choose not to let Perez Hilton represent me. Why won't he die?

But I digress. I wonder if it's meant to be like 'teh' or 'funneh' or some of the other things that are intentionally misspelled. When I was in school, we were taught the correct way. It appears correct in all our newspapers/magazines, as well, so I'm not sure.
