Nonsense from The Great Game

I just mentioned this in comments on sherlockbbc. One thing that did throw me about the Carl Powers case was that they said initially that it was a man, then that the kid had had the shoes for a long period of time and cleaned them to maintain them.

If he was 11 years old, he would have been growing too fast for them to fit him for very long, wouldn't they?

Also, this makes Moriarty a Brightonian. We don't have Irish accents down here... Well, my housemate does, but she's Irish. If Moriarty was here in 1989 he would have had to have gone back to/moved to Ireland since.

Maybe Moriarty's family was nomadic? There's no indication that there are other unsolved mysteries he was involved with growing up, but he could have been born in Ireland and for one reason or another, his parents keep moving their family from place to place?
