So, I bought a tablet recently and I hadn't really used it, so at about 2.30am this morning I decided what better time to do it.

What resulted is this half-finished sketch of the Pythons, in their Holy Grail costumes, but out of character during filming. Graham was a bastard to draw because in the reference photo he doesn't really look like himself to begin with. Also, drawing people with their mouths open is really hard. Managed to choose a picture in which half of the subjects have their mouths open. Well done, Rosie.

I haven't actually drawn anything properly in ages, so I'm massively out of practise, but this hasn't turned out too bad.

T'is good. Really good.

I've got a tablet but I've tried using it to draw with PSP but the results are never really that good. What one do you have and what program do you use?

Thank you. :)

I just draw in GIMP. Results so far have been mixed. This is the first one I'm relatively happy with. I've always, always drawn in pencil and there's really no way to get the line soft enough with a tablet, the way you would by laying a a pencil at a shallower angle.

I definitely find that working very small (which I've always had a habit of doing - I actually drew this at only 150% of the size you can see here) helps, because you get less space filled with scratchy digital granite.

Thanks, hon. Believe it or not, I've nearly finished a second one!

Yeah, I had the scratchy digital granite problem. Plus any blending or smudging tools just seem to shift the granite around, unlike using a blending/smudging stick on a paper drawing.

I'll have to give the GIMP another go - if only for digital drawing. Though I'm thinking I need a better tablet than what I currently have.

Both the images you posted today are impressive. Good work!

Is the tablet difficult to use? (and how much was yours/what brand? My dad would love something like that.)

It's this one. It comes with a software program, but I prefer using GIMP which is a free thing he could just download.

It took a little while to get used to, but it sort of clicks, like predictive text in the end.

And thanks -- I'm glad you liked them!
