Sunday, 12 April 2009 12:49 pmSomeone just posted this on YouTube. It's a video of the Easter Procession which used to terrify me as a child. It was this Friday's one, and the video begins in the piazza where my father used to own a bar when I lived there. It is on the terrace to the right of the screen, although you can't quite see it.
On the left you can just see the base of the massive, ancient water fountain I used to play on all the time (If you watch the other video it's actually featured at aroun 9.15). I spent so much of my life between the age of 5 and 7, here.
It's so weird to see it on film. I might be taking a short trip out there with my dad, this year - hopefully early summer if I can get the time off work (which I start on Wednesday, by the way - I think I mostly talked about that on Twitter), which is going to be weird. Not least because I haven't seen my dad in nearly six years and haven't been to Sicily in fifteen years.
But yeah - this is the village I lived in, and the procession I used to hide from.
And no, it's not the KKK.
This video also shows you more of the village from the road to Campofelice (the next town on the way to the coast) and some footage of driving around the village itself.
In the middle are some clips of fountains - one with three faces and one that looks like an egg - those are on the road (I believe toward Isnello) where my mum used to take me and the boys for walks, to a little cave with a river running through it, where we would have picnics.
