Rosie says:
I'm really thinking about becoming a tattooist.
cristian says:
really?
Rosie says:
I've found a course online to get started, but after that it's a lot of work for virtually no money and I don't know how I'd handle it.
Rosie says:
I just really want to do something different.
Rosie says:
Julie (my best friend, who lives in Ireland, but is moving to London) has said that if I take up tattooing, she'll take up piercing.
Rosie says:
Then, one day we might open a studio together. It'd be years away, yet, but it's a loose plan to work to.
cristian says:
sounds good to me
cristian says:
so u need money basically
Rosie says:
Yeah
Rosie says:
Thinking about selling my sould to the Devil.
Rosie says:
Or to start buying lottery tickets! Hahaha.
cristian says:
do the latter first i say
Rosie says:
Yeah. I'd have to start believing in Christianity as well, first.
cristian says:

cristian says:

Yeah. It was actually he who was one of the first people to suggest it.

Heh. Wish it worked like that.

Most tattooists seem to think that tattoo 'school' is a rip off.

I certainly wouldn't expect it to be the be-all and end-all of any training. Merely the most basic hopping-off point before years of appreticeship. Which is a bastard to find anyway.

As a customer I would feel more comfortable knowing that you went to school. It means that you're serious about the business and getting to know the craft and you're willing to spend money for that.

One of the reasons I felt comfortable with my piercer was because he'd been through a course and he really knew his stuff. Experience counts too, but he drew me a diagram of a tongue, explained exactly where the piercing would go, the fact that it's not going through muscle, etc. I was able to trust him and had no problem with him doing my piercing or doing any after care.

Sorry, that ended up being much longer than I thought it would.

Short version: Rosie + Tattoo School = Yay!

I've also been planning on winning the lottery. I haven't actually started playing yet, but I'm toying with the idea. I can't win if I don't try, and if you're reasonable about it (maybe one ticket every paycheque, something sensible), then, well, you never know.

Perhaps I've just seen "It Could Happen To You" too many times. Damn Nicolas Cage.

Oh, and also, I am all for your plan. Although I'm not clear on the specifics. Could you still be working a regular paying job whilst doing this tattoo school thing? Something to keep the bill collectors at bay while you're hunting down and then doing your apprenticeship? I'll also volunteer my skin for practice, I'm just a touch on the wrong side of the ocean.

I was actually thinking about working at a local tattoo parlor over my breaks. I'm rather interested in the culture surrounding tattoos (though I don't have any as of this moment) so it would be a good chance to learn more.

You could always find an artist to apprentice with.

It really, really, really not that easy. For every apprentice position there are a hundered people wanting it. And while I'm doing the apprenticeship, I'd have basically no income. It's not as if I have parents to support me.
