So, since Pete and Ashlee announced their baby, and FoE posted a poll asking people to guess what the baby would be, some people in fandom have been freaking out about how the mother deserves privacy and how dare they ask this question all the time.

I'm not a mother, but I don't think it's a big deal - what do you think?

It's a big deal when the questioner assumes that you have a preference for one gender over the other. It's not so bad with a first baby, although with so many thousands of people invested in the sprog of these two I'm sure that many of them think they'd be better off with one vs. the other. Once you have one child, people assume you want the other gender. Once you have two of the same gende, *everyone* comments with gems like, "Trying for your (insert gender you don't have yet) now?" Wugh.

People are invasive and inappropriate when you're having a baby. It's unavoidable. Being famous, it's much worse, If the worst thing that happens is a gender guessing poll on the internet, they'll be lucky parents.
