rosiedoes: (HRE: Band)
A lot of people on here probably know that I run the street team for a band called Holy Roman Empire. What they might not know is that the band is partially made up of ex-members of Arma Angelus, Shai Hulud and Stabbed by Words - all of which have some significance to pre-FOB era Pete, Joe and Andy.

Now, over the last year, Jay, their guitarist, and I have become good friends* and today, in between arguing about the best kind of casual footwear, he linked me to a radio show a good friend of his just launched. You probably know that guy as [livejournal.com profile] askheychris. So, on the first show he did, Chris asked Jay to be his special guest and what resulted was an hour or two of absolute hilarity, reminiscing on the good old days in the band when Jay got to "sleep" with the "Princess", their drummer wanted to play 'I'll show you mine' and planes flew into buildings...

It really is an awesome show which can be listened to via archived podcast, and you'll probably hear a few things about P-We and the Arma years that you never knew. And you'll laugh your arses off, I promise.

You can IM Chris during the show when it's happening live (the Jay show aired on 22 April), or call in, and so far it sounds like a lot of people want Jay back on there for more antics.

YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CHECK IT OUT

And when you've done that, you may as well go and check out his band, too. Happy listening!

(*no, I swear I'm not bragging, we just are and usually I filter shit if I even mention the guys so people can't bitch at me for it)

Well, that's kind of gay.

Lesbos islanders dispute gay name
By Malcolm Brabant
BBC News, Athens

Campaigners on the Greek island of Lesbos are to go to court in an attempt to stop a gay rights organisation from using the term "lesbian".

The islanders say that if they are successful they may then start to fight the word lesbian internationally.

The issue boils down to who has the right to call themselves Lesbians.

Is it gay women, or the 100,000 people living on Greece's third biggest island - plus another 250,000 expatriates who originate from Lesbos?

The man spearheading the case, publisher Dimitris Lambrou, claims that international dominance of the word in its sexual context violates the human rights of the islanders, and disgraces them around the world.

He says it causes daily problems to the social life of Lesbos's inhabitants.

Injunction sought

In court papers, the plaintiffs allege that the Greek government is so embarrassed by the term Lesbian that it has been forced to rename the island after its capital, Mytilini.
map of Lesbos

An early court date has now been set for judges to decide whether to grant an injunction against the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece and to order it to change its name.

A spokeswoman for the group has described the case as a groundless violation of freedom of expression, and has pledged to fight it.

The term lesbian originated from a mythological goddess and poet called Sappho, who was a native of Lesbos.

Sappho expressed her love of other women in poetry written during the 7th Century BC.

But according to Mr Lambrou, new historical research has discovered that Sappho had a family, and committed suicide for the love of a man.

Personally, I hate the word 'lesbian' - the way it sounds and the way it looks. I'd rather have a different one, please.

Lin! I have a challenge for you. Can you translate this for me?

It's an article written by a guy who spent a night on an investigation with me - but it's in German! DX

Edit: having translated it with Babelfish, he doesn't sound too convinced by me. But then, I'm not generally too convinced by me. I still feel pretty shocked when I get things dead accurate (like the wolfhound).

And for the record, It's Chief, not boss. And it's an in-joke between me and him.

This is one of the few times you will see me rally for a cause. But I hope you all will take the time to read and sign this. It really is sad to see that in 2008 things like this are still happening. Thanks guys.

THIS WILL TAKE A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME AND WILL SAVE A CREATURE AND HOPEFULLY REMOVE THIS SO-CALLED "ARTIST"!!!

In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, he tied him to a rope in an art gallery, starving him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

Five very disturbing pictures of this disgrace. )

Does it look like art to you?

But this is not all ... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.

Let's STOP HIM!!!!!

or

(Alternate Link )
or just copy it in your browser to sign a petion to stop him to do it again, then digit the name Guillermo Vargas Habacuc to find the petition to sign.

Please do it.

It's free of charge and it will only take 1 minute to save the life of an innocent creature.

Please also send this to as many contact as you can... Let's stop him!!!

If you want to double check all the above information you can google the name of the 'artist' to see all I have just said corresponds to truth.

Thank you

A woman has been killed at a level crossing I grew up using.

The level crossing is unmanned - just planks of wood across the rails between Staines and Ashford, close to Shortwood Common.

I used to have to cross that section of track to get to hospital appointments, by myself, when I was fifteen or sixteen. There's nothing there. No alarm, no barriers, no phone or way to call for help.

When I was about eight or so, my uncle's friend, Jeremy Green - who used to babysit me when I was a really small child - also died on that section of track. It's part of the reason I live in fear of railway tracks. Trains terrify me.

Fucking hell. I went to school with three Mansell kids. Why has this been allowed to happen again?

They found Mark Speight's body.

I feel weird. I grew up watching SMart and seeing him on TV and he did always seem like such a bright, bouncy guy.

They found him "in a remote area of Paddington Station", which I only passed through twice on Thursday. It's horrible to think that he may have been laying there dead, with thousands and thousands of people around him all the time, for days.

Poor guy. I don't approve of drug use in any capacity, but what a terrible chain of events to happen to someone.

Rest in peace, Mark.

NEW ALBUM OMGOMGOMGOMG!

If Joe's right, and the sounds he's talking about do make the album... fuck will I be happy.

I was into those bands while Joe was writing dorky Shai Hulud reviews on Amazon and proclaiming that he was both straightedge and vegan (so, actually, trusting his predictions is probably unwise).

MORRISEY! MANCHESTER BANDS! SCORE!

Ilu JTroh, I do.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] kenix (better known as Jamie McKelvie) is a pretty damn fine comic book artist, and right now, between immediate projects, he's taking commissions for pieces.

Jamie will be working on one of the major superhero franchises, shortly, and has already published works such as Phonogram and Suburban Glamour.

You can see some of his art at his MySpace.

Check it out.
