Okay, so I'm putting my mother hen apron, here, but... meh. I kind of find myself growing uneasy with all the drinking.

I mean, people are making a big deal ("So, this is the first awards ceremony you've been drinking at...") and it's not like it's just occasionally. It's like every time we see him, now.

Someone is being a bad influence, I feel.

You know....I wonder about this myself sometimes. (In between shameful squeeing over how cute I think tipsy Patrick might be. I'm SUPPOSED to be edge, damn it. XD)

Do you think maybe it's because Pete has started drinking now?

Personally I don't find Patrick's drinking as off-putting, probably becuase he doesn't get like, so trashed he can't function.

This is kind of a depressing thing to ponder. D:

I suspect it's Pete and Travie being around ALL THE TIME at the moment.

I saw Travie get through three quarters of a litre of neat vodka during the GCH set at Decaydance.

I blame Ashlee. And while I think it's endearingly cute, it could just be an experimentation phase he's going through. I went through the same thing in my early 20s.

I don't get everyone's concern - they're all grown-ups, they can drink if they choose, they can drink alot if they choose. My friends and I are huge drinkers as well and we're all fine.

I don't have a problem with it, I used to be the same way. As long as the drinking doesn't become more than a social thing and he doesn't become a mess on stage when he's performing (slurring, forgetting words, forgetting how to play), then more power to him.

Im just kind of curious here, not trying to knock anyone. But how do people know a lot of this? Obviously you saw Travie, but the Ashlee and champagne thing? And someone down there said Joe is drinking heavily. ANd as much as I enjoyed seing Patrick "drunk" for someone who has gone from not drinking at all I dont think it would take that much. Maybe it was more of an accident? IDK, mainly the point of this is wondering how people know all this stuff?

Posted by [identity profile] rosiedoes.livejournal.com
Because if we haven't seen it, other fans have seen it - I talked to someone who saw the Champagne Incident first hand and it was also reported in a gossip column a couple of days later, if I remember correctly; I saw Travie off his tits by early afternoon in Edinburg and at Decaydance he drank 3/4 of a litre of vodka during their set.

Joe has never been edge, to the best of my knowledge, but he's a stoner not a big drinker. I haven't seen him drunk myself, but what I was saying was that if these guys are drinking more even than Joe, that seems kind of weird.

When you've been in fandom a while, you just get into networks of communication, really.

I drink. Possibly more than I should... However, even I was shocked to see Travis stand on stage in front of an audience consisting of mostly underage girls and down a bottle of vodka.

Out of respect for the people I was with that day, I didn't drink at all. I don't get bladdered on a school night, because I have a job to do that I can't do with a hangover. If I started drinking to that degree on my job I'd be fired. I don't get how being a musician makes any difference. A few beers as a musician, fine. I used to have a pint at lunch time on a Friday at my old OLD job. Downing vodka like that, particularly in front of teenagers who look up to you, is irresponsible.

We saw a girl of,what, 12? Rosie? Trying to sneak vodka into the show. She's going to see someone like Travis and think 'cool'. Travis was so hammered in London, he was walking around the streets staggering. In Edinburgh, he could hardly walk. Pete even said he'd been passed out the majority of the day.

Patrick.. I don't know that much about. He doesn't look drunkard to me. Tipsy, maybe but drunkard no. Pete and Ashleee.. well. I have my own opinions about the Simpson sisters which go back several years and they creep me the hell out. That opinion has been around since before I even knew who Pete Wentz was.

it concerns me in the sense that pete use to claim edge and patrick just didn't drink. now panic drinks as well and the one that surprised me most was ryan because of the background his father had with drinking. they're definitely all adults but the reason ryan didn't go to the kerrang awards was because he was hungover is what i've heard. pete carries lighters now, i really hope it's not for smoking though. regardless, he's definitely more open about the fact that he drinks. it bugs me because that's far from the people they use to be. i think the break they'll have after this upcoming tour will do them all good and hopefully they can stay away from the lime light because i think that's the biggest influence though ashlee is a close second.

My husband's father drank a lot and it profoundly affected his youngest son, my brother-in-law. He didn't drink at all during childhood, which in the UK is pretty random. He didn't drink till he hit 21/22.

Now, when he's out he'll have a drink. Not to the point of drunk, but to the point of merry. He doesn't randomly drink though.

This is a boy who at 18 swore he'd never drink.

People change, they grow up. They realise that what they thought at 17 isn't the person they are now. However, in the case of my b-i-l, they stay very aware of the dangers of drink and keep themselves in check on how much they do consume.

I'm not saying he's exactly like Ryan, I'm just sharing a personal experience with you.

So Andy's the saint now because he doesn't drink booze?

They're grown ups and they were at a party in vegas. Of course everyone is going to get smashed out of their minds.

I'm sorry for not agreeing with everyone here, but drinking isn't the worst fucking thing in the world. People drink at parties. It happens. I bet there was some pot smoking too going on.

The thing you got to remember is that as long as it doesn't effect their job and you hear reports of any of them ditching their job for booze, that's when you start getting concerned.

So far, I have yet to see that with any of the boys.

I'm sorry to rant and butt in on that, but I think everyone is taking this a bit too seriously.

I thought I'd throw my two cents in here since everyone else has. I've been getting a little worried about the drinking as well. This is total speculation, I'll admit, but what worries me is that Patrick has always been a little shy in public and the drinking probably makes him less self-conscious. This is a slippery slope when you start relying on it to loosen you up before every show or appearance. I'm not saying he does that now, it's just playing around with fire a bit if you ask me.
I'm seriously a little worried for Travie, last night he was so shitfaced on the VMA's that he barely knew where he was. He also told the pre-interviewer that he barely remembers making the 'clothes off' video because he was so drunk.
With all this success they're all having right now, it comes with a price, and I think they are all due for a nice long break.
And I know this hasn't been mentioned but it's sort of the same thing with William Beckett. I'm always hearing stories about that kid being trashed and it worries me for him because he seems like someone who turns to it at the wrong times, when he's depressed.

Well, thank you. That's exactly it.

I'm not saying I think Patrick has a problem, I'm just saying that recently he's fallen off the wagon and taken off in the opposite direction. It's a big change from being basically edge, to getting out of his box every time there's a camera present.

I just can't help feeling that it's the company he keeps and the way members of his inner circle have changed recently.

Travie is just plain fucking scary. That and his comment on his tattoo video about how pills are his vice.

So, drink and pills - in his own words, on film? Oh, hai, early death.

hey,i'm an ocasional lurker (psst add me please?) but this post sparked my interest.
here is my opinion: maybe they are just tired of people assumeing that they know them. like "oh patrick is a good guy he'd never do that. Alot of things change between 16 and 18 let alone 16 and 23. He's probably not the same kid he was back then. maybe he's trying to prove some sort of point. which by the way, is kind of dumb to do, once you break edge you can't really claim to be straight edge agian. I know first hand, straight edge sence i was 12, broke edge to smoke pot at 16 because no one thought i would, stoped doing that around 18, now i wish i could be edge again, i hate haveing to admit that i did that.
in conclusion.... perhaps it's a phase that he's getting out of his system now, because he didn't have the chance to really do so before

Edge is a lifestyle choice, not your virginity. Of course you can do it again.

Andy used to be a heavy drinker, look at him now.

I was a little confused when I first saw the drunken karaoke video with Patrick. I thought he just didn't drink, simple enough. But fine, people change, a drink or two at a party isn't the end of the world (unless you're getting drunk at the Pentagon and fire off their arsenal in a stupor). I agree with what someone else said, though, that he may be over-using it as a social lubricant and I hope that's not the case. Really really hope. That's what happened to Gerard, and the result wasn't pretty from what I heard.

The champagne thing is just ridiculous, though. If Pete wants to drink, he shouldn't conceal it like that. Sure, some fans are gonna be pissed that he broke edge or whatever, but the world goes on, and as long as it doesn't become a habit, do as you please I say.

Travis I know nothing about, so... no comment there. Gotta say though: Litre of vodka? Your liver's hating you. Seriously.

All in all, I really hope it's just the media picking and choosing which pictures they publish more than anything else. Nothing like getting fans all riled up.

Cross your fingers.

The first time, at the karaoke, I thought it was cute and kind of funny to see him letting his hair down a bit... it's just that it seems to have been so often recently. It's a bit of a shock.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me adding my thoughts into this post.

OK, my friends and I go out and we do sometimes get drunk. Personally, I don't do it too often, but I know people who go drinking almost every night. But neither I, or any other outsider, really worry for their health because my friends know their limits. They know when enough is enough and they are, for the most part, responsible when they drink. I think that this is also the case for Patrick, Pete and the Panic! boys (and others from the label). I have faith in them that they know when to stop. Maybe that faith's misplaced, I don't really know.

However, I am worried about Travis. It's one thing to drink and have some fun (which is what Gabe managed to do at the VMAs), but Travis did go too far. This, coupled with the cocaine rumours, do have me worried about him. I was quite shocked when he drowned that vodka at Decaydance, he seemed like he's had a lot of practice. Same goes for Bill, who drowned the same amount during TAI...'s set.

Oh, boys.

Posted by [identity profile] rosiedoes.livejournal.com
Well, you know - it just makes me uneasy because it's such a sudden change, you know? It's like 0-60 in under three seconds.

I think Patrick is capable of judging for himself what is good and what is not, but with the people around him (like Travis and William) it might be a negative influence. I'm not saying either of those boys would put any pressure on him at all, I'm just saying that in that environment, as soon as someone says, "Oh, go on - just this once" it's easy for it to become a habit.
