Why must everyone be a stroppy teenager about everything?

*headdesk*

In other news (or perhaps topically), Facebook are fucking mental and decided that my name - my real name, the one on my passport, and the one my colleagues call me - is in fact fake, and have disabled my account until such time as I give them my "real" one. Which it already is and which I was already using.

How did we come to this? Well, their automated system would not accept my roller derby name (long explanation, if you don't know roller derby, but think of it kind of somewhere between an alterego and a stage name and then assume everyone who plays the sport only knows you by that roller derby name and not the one your parents gave you) so, using their help form as provided, I asked if it would be possible for it to be added as the alternate name or as a nickname. Their response was to tell me my real name was fake (proving that 'Natalia' who emailed me back had not read my email at all and just made random assumptions, as it clearly explained what the circumstances were) and disable my perfectly legitimate account.

So, if you had me friended and now can't find me, this is why. I haven't blocked you, the fucking idiots have blocked me.

Because the Internet has this strange way of stripping a lot of people of maturity the minute they put their hands on the keyboard.

Facebook really is stupid sometimes. I mean, what are you supposed to do to prove that is your real name? Because I sure as fuck wouldn't send them any important documents to prove it.

I've never really agreed with the whole "You MUST provide your real name" thing. So long as you don't give a really obvious fake name. And sorry, but your going to tell celebs they can't use their stage names? Yeah right.

(Besides, isn't Natalia an actual name?)

Natalia is the Italian version of Natalie, and has some relation to Natale, which means Christmas, I believe. I assume it's either a real customer service rep, or a sock puppet for Facebook's staff in general.

My derby name is Beau Deadly (as in Bo Diddly) and I assumed that it was rejected because of the word 'deadly' in it, but then one of my team mates has her name as Mass Janeycide and there are thousands of other derby girls who also list their derby names.

It seems totally illogical.

Sockpuppet would not surprise...
(I confess, my brain is melting out my ears right now, which is why I keeping misunderstanding stuff...ironically, this is probably what caused this issue - FB's staff aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.)

I don't see the problem of your derby name. Especially when other derby girls are using theirs.

'Logic' and 'Facebook' are not words that belong in the same sentence.

I was "Primrose Burrows" for a while before I decided I wouldn't get anyone from fourth grade finding me if I didn't use my own name. Apparently fb thought it was my real name. I have no idea how they come to a conclusion about stuff like this.

My friend/HR guy from work has his name listed as Bollockface Jizzlobber. Seriously.

I should open a shadow fb and use Norma Jean Baker and see if anyone would notice that it's Marilyn Monroe's real name.

In fairness, there are probably thousands of people who are really called that, around the world, precisely because it was her name.

Do you use your middle initial? You could add it, or leave it out if you've used it before. Unless you don't have a middle initial.

I tried that and it wouldn't accept it, either.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the fact we use it so heavily to arrange derby stuff, I wouldn't even use it.
