D-Day

Today marks sixty-seven years since D-Day.

There are some amazing photos here which may serve to remind us of the enormous bravery and sacrifice exhibited by thousands and thousands of men as they invaded and liberated occupied Europe.

From my office window, I can make out a sliver of the English Channel beyond the houses. It blows my mind to think that still out there are the remains of boats, planes, weapons and more importantly the soldiers who sought to free our world from the Nazis. They paid the ultimate price, not only to defend our island or to avenge attacks on their own lands, but to put an end to the genocide and tyrrany which was choking Europe and would ultimately, if unchallenged, have choked much of the world as we know it.

Those men achieved incredible things, gave of themselves beyond anything we could have had a right to expect, and it is down to them - and to their female counterparts in their many, varied roles - that we are here today.

Never let us forget this.

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. – Winston Churchill; speech in the House of Commons, 4 June 1940.

The 32-year-old star, in an interview with Now magazine, was asked if he’d ever slept with a man. He replied, “Of course I have. I'm an actor for f*ck's sake. I've played with everything and everyone.

"I love the form and the physicality, but now that I'm in my thirties, it doesn't do it for me. I'm done experimenting but there's plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine. A lot of people say I seem masculine, but I don't feel it. I feel intrinsically feminine. I'd love to be one of the boys but I always felt a bit on the outside. Maybe my masculine qualities come from overcompensating because I'm not one of the boys.”

THIS MAN IS PLAYING BANE. MY SOUL IS HAPPY.

Irish BFF: You're more polite about it? You queue? There's more tea involved?

Talking with Hurley, you get the impression that he’s completely content to play the drums and go home to his Boca Burgers and Alan Moore comics. Joe Trohman, on the other hand, wants to do more. “I do feel left out a lot,” the guitarist says. At 24, he’s the youngest of the Fall Out boys, and he plays the role of kid brother well—splurging on old Nintendo games and $500 Storm Trooper figurines, finding funny YouTube videos for the guys to watch (latest favorite: “Chimpanzee Riding a Segway”). If Fall Out Boy were the Ninja Turtles, Wentz would be Leonardo, Stump would be Donatello, Hurley would be Raphael, and Trohman, all agree, would be Michelangelo—the “party dude.” “Joe is a free spirit,” Stump says. “He’s kind of just off in Joe Land, which is an awesome place to be.”

To hear Trohman tell it, though, Joe Land isn’t always so awesome. “It does get frustrating, not being able to contribute,” Trohman says. “I mean, to be labeled a background guy, someone who’s just along for the ride—it’s hard. I started Fall Out Boy, you know?” He wrote a few songs for the new album, but they were all cut at the last minute. “It’s kind of a bummer, to work so hard and have it come to nothing. I don’t want to sound like I’m bashing anyone, or I’m ungrateful,” he stresses. “Because I’m very happy to be a part of all this. I’m afraid the guys are gonna read this and wish I’d talked to them first—which maybe I should have. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like I’m even in the band.”

The next line after Joe's statement is, "Pete Wentz doesn’t Google himself anymore."

On [livejournal.com profile] truefobinglove of the first four comments, mine is the only one which references the fact that Joe feels completely underappreciated and superfluous in his own band.

That poor kid. I just want to hug him, right now. I mean, I always do, and this is generally pretty much the reason - because I've been saying since IOH came out, more or less, that it seemed like consciously or not, he was being pushed out of his own band, and how shitty that must feel.

I just really hate to see people proving the exact point right there.

Me: [reads aloud from list of Joe quotes] "For me, the more money I get, the more I freak out."
Julie: [lol]
Me: [mocks] Oh no! I got all thith money and I've no idea what to do with it!
Julie: Oh, no, wait - I'll buy this BARBIE-HAIR RUG!

Nathan: [joking] We're playing 67 nights at Madam JoJo's...
Caleb: What is this 'Madam JoJo's' you're always going on about, man?
Nathan: It's that strip joint... I was kind of... 'fond' of a stripper there...
Caleb: [totally deadpan] Oh yeah. [pause] He was hot.

When I was growing up the acceptable homosexual ambiguity was girls making out with each other. And now kids are writing fanfiction about guys making out with each other -- that's pretty hot, that's sweet. Guys making out with each other was never considered cool or hot.

I love this guy so much. He has got to be one of the most open, intelligent and accepting people in fandom.

hey just wanted to drop you a note straight from the source. everyone knows tour has been pushed back- no i am not dead (unless this is the replaced robot me writing this), no noone is in rehabd. hopefully you know how much we love to tour and want to keep going- after some things coming up- it is in the best interest of the health of the band and its members to take just a couple weeks to catch up. we plan to tour for a long time after this soo stay tuned. also, expect some little things popping up here and there- (suprises at shows and whatnot) as we feel that is also important to the health of our band and our fans.

And yet, on the blogspot:

take a vote, the eyes have it. but the knives have our back.

"An ending fitting for the start
you twist and tore our love apart
your light fingers through the dark
shattered the lamp- into darkness it cast us..."

"No you've got it the wrong way round-
just shut me up and blamed it on the brown"
cornered the boy kicked out at the world, the world kicked back
alot fuckin' harder...

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie (I know you lie)
I'm still in love with you (oh oh oh)

Have we enough to keep it together?
or do we just keep on pretending (and hope our
luck is never ending)...

you cant stand me now, you cant stand me...."

I feel sick.

Don't quote me...
